Apple gets it all wrong?

Here is an interesting article from MSNBC.
Apple is one of the most innovative companies in the modern world. From music, to phones, obviously computers, etc. It is fair to say that without a doubt they are an icon of successful marketing and innovation. Yet, they DO NOT do any of the things that people say is essential to do in the internet age. No Blogging, no tweeting, it doesn’t crowdsource, doesn’t give anything away for free, and 98.9% of their marketing budgets are spent on “old school” TV and print.
The moral here possibly? It’s what your selling that matters. No amount or tweeting, Facebook friending, or crowdsourceing will help sell products that no one wants. Apple has carefully crafted a brand through traditional mediums, and has stayed on top of the innovation in the tech industry. They’re not asking folks what products they would like to see the company make, they are making products that people don’t even know they want or need, and oh boy do they!
So for everyone who believes that the internet is the only way to reach customers and engage them in your brand, remember that there is no silver bullet, or one solution that fits all. It is smart account planning and effective media mix that does. As someone once told me “You can’t win a war with tanks alone.”
I’m impressed
It’s too bad more people don’t know about this site, it covered what I needed today.
